July 26th, 2008Vitamin D, S.A.D, CFS/ME and Suntan lotion
Could the rise in CFS/ME conditions be linked to Vitamin D deficiency?
We have been encouraged for many years now to plaster our children and ourselves with suntan lotion.
To absorb a vital essential mineral, essential for every single cell in the body we need Vitamin D.
The mineral we need to absorb is Calcium and the only way it is fully digested by the gut is with Vitamin D.
We do get some Vitamin D from our food. From animal fat and oily fish.
But the majority of Vitamin D that we need is made in the skin only when the sun is shining on it. The use of suntan lotions prevents this from happening.
Sad isn’t it? And there you have it, yet another preventable condition (S A D) if only we would allow the sun to sit on our skin and stop using suntan lotions. If you burn - cover up with clothes not lotion.
The Government with their health advice really need to get their thinking caps on and consider the advice they keep getting so very wrong.
Vitamin D is also obtained via animal fat. And yet they tell us not to eat that. (it doesn’t cause ill-health - refined foods do that)
